Muktinath

Muktinath Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in Nepal, located at an altitude of 3,710 meters in the Mustang region at the foothills of the Thorong La Pass. The temple holds immense religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists, making it a unique symbol of religious harmony. For Hindus, Muktinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu, believed to grant Moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death).

The temple complex is famous for its 108 sacred water spouts, where pilgrims perform ritual baths, and the eternal flame of Jwala Mai Temple, where natural gas burns continuously alongside flowing water — a rare natural phenomenon. Buddhists regard Muktinath as Chumig Gyatsa, a place of the Dakinis, and consider it an important site for meditation and spiritual awakening. The surrounding landscape is a dramatic blend of snow-capped peaks, arid valleys, and ancient Himalayan culture.
